How Myofascial Release Helped Me Let Go of Trauma I Didn’t Know I Was Carrying
There was a time in my life when I woke up every morning with the kind of neck pain that made me question if I could survive another day. I’m not talking about a kink or a crick. I’m talking about suffocating, relentless pain—deep in my neck and shoulders—that felt like it had its own heartbeat.
And no matter what I tried—nerve ablations, epidurals, painkillers, physical therapy—nothing truly touched it. At best, I got temporary numbness. At worst, I felt like I was disappearing—numbed out, disconnected, and still in pain.
And then one day, I realized something terrifying but freeing:
The pain wasn’t just physical. It was emotional. Energetic. Unprocessed trauma stored in my tissues.
I was in a relationship at the time that looked fine on the outside—but inside, it was slowly suffocating my soul. I had lost my voice, my power, my sense of safety. I didn’t feel free to be my authentic self. I stayed small to keep the peace. I swallowed my truth to avoid conflict. And my body kept the score.
The Missing Piece: Myofascial Release
It wasn’t until I (re)discovered myofascial release therapy that everything started to shift.
You see, fascia is the connective tissue that wraps around every muscle, bone, and organ in your body. It’s like a second nervous system—one that remembers everything: every trauma, every suppressed emotion, every time you held your breath to stay quiet or safe.
When you experience trauma—whether it’s emotional, physical, or relational—your body contracts. Your fascia tightens to protect you. And over time, if it isn’t released, it starts to lock those memories into your body like a cage.
Pain Is the Body’s Language!
My neck pain wasn’t random. It was my body’s cry for help.
My body was literally trying to speak the truth I couldn’t say out loud:
“YOUR relationship is not safe. YOUR life is not aligned. YOU are not free.”
Once I began practicing and receiving true, hands-on myofascial release, something incredible happened:
Tears I didn’t know I’d been holding began to surface.
Rage I had buried deep in my tissues bubbled up…and literally exploded out of my mouth one night. (I think the entire town of Topanga heard me unleash the demons.)
Memories, sensations, and insights flooded my awareness.
And then—slowly, but for real—the pain began to melt.
Not just numb.
Not just masked.
Gone. Because I finally listened.
Why This Matters—for ALL of Us
So many people are walking around in pain they think is structural or age-related or “just stress.” But often, that pain is a signal—a message from the body that something deeper needs to be released.
Myofascial release doesn’t just work on muscles. It works on the emotional body, the energetic body, the somatic memory that traditional medicine so often overlooks.
When we create safe space for the body to unwind, to speak, to breathe, we allow it to finally let go of the trauma it’s been holding onto for dear life.
If You’re in Pain—Listen!
If you’re dealing with chronic pain that no one seems to understand or resolve…
If you’ve tried everything—medications, injections, even surgeries—with no lasting relief…
If you’ve felt trapped in a body that doesn’t feel like your own anymore…
Please don’t give up.
Your body isn’t broken. It’s brilliant.
It’s trying to protect you. It’s trying to tell you something.
And sometimes, you just need the right support to help it let go.
That’s what myofascial release gave me: not just freedom from pain—but a return to myself. To my truth. To my power.
And I promise you: that kind of healing is possible for you, too.
